5/30/11: NH, NY, MD, PA, OR and VT no longer permit outdoor wood burning furnaces, that are not EPA approved. However, you may be able to take advantage of the less expensive ($2000+ less) and simpler furnaces that can burn COAL and  are built without electronics and circuit boards! We believe that they are fins in PA and VT and may be good in other states too! Check with your local code enforcement office!
